Originally inspired from a segment on one of Jamie Oliver’s many cooking shows, I was inspired to give this one a shot with my own added twist – my favourite Superfood Mix – Vital Greens. The end result is a refreshing filling smoothie that won’t have reaching for the morning coffee (in my case).
The oats in the smoothie contain slow release energy properties that keep you feeling energized and full. The smoothies will keep you feeling full right into the afternoon if you are an office work – a good effect by all accounts!
Just a side note on the part where I say to add in some milk. This can be any type of milk; be it dairy, almond, soy or other. I use unsweetened Almond milk – it works great!
- 1x large handful of mixed frozen berries
- 1x fresh peeled banana
- 1x small hand full of oats
- 1x small hand full of nuts
- 1x cup of milk
- 2x table spoons of plain yoghurt (optional)
- Juice of half a fresh lime
- Superfood Mix
Putting it all together
When adding the ingredients to your blender, remember to always start with the softest items first. Progress to the solid ingredients before adding in your liquids. Wiz the ingredients together for 1 – 2 minutes or until you reach your preferred texture.
If you add more frozen berries than your blender can handle, your mixture might get stuck. If this is the case, remove the jug from your blenders base and give it a nudge. If this doesn’t help, add some more milk or water.
